Process
While the outcome of this project is physical, I used several different technologies to create it. I designed the sculpture initially in Photoshop, and then cut it up into the different puzzle pieces. I then converted the pieces into bitmaps and imported them into Blender, a 3D modelling platform. I resized and re-positioned the pieces, testing out the perspectives, so that the viewer could only see the picture from one angle. I converted that into an adobe illustrator file, and used a laser-cutting machine to cut out all the puzzle pieces. From there I began to assemble the sculpture, using the blender diagram as a guideline for positioning of the pieces. I used over 150 meters of fishing line suspending the pieces. On the back of each of the pieces I hand-wrote a personality trait from the character. |
